As part of the collaboration between Leyden Gallery and Whitechapel Gallery for the late-night event Nocturnal Creatures, Leyden Gallery’s doors will be open to the public for a night dedicated to art. Come join artist Rosina Godwin in an amazing encounter where visitors can create their own nocturnal or imaginary creature badge to take away into the night, using either knitting or soft sculpture with bright colours, textures and neon/glow-in-the-dark yarns.
The workshop is open to anyone with an interest in textiles, wishing to explore the artistic potential of knitting.
There will be a demonstration of basic techniques (flat and double pointed needles, casting on and off, increasing and decreasing, knit and purl stitches), with discussions on felting and creating visceral effects with paints and gels.
A range of samples and sketchbooks will be on display to encourage further exploration after the session.
All levels of ability are welcome.
What you should bring: Materials will be supplied. However, if you have a preference for a specific yarn or knitting needle, please feel free to bring along!
The gallery, exhibition, and our artBar remain open until 11 pm.
