The Brick Lane Gallery exhibition showcases three brand new paintings created especially for the show; two of which are the latest in Coates’ ‘Rock-A-My-Soul’ series whilst the third sees the beginning of a brand new project entitled ‘Rexia’.
Meanwhile the BHVU Open offers the chance to see the third painting in Coates’ revered ‘Our Lady of Guadalupe’ series.
Working in paint, mixed media and three dimensions, Simon Coates’ artwork represents reflections on obsessions, viscera, opposites, surgery, iconoclasm, iconography, decay, rebirth, afterbirth, incest, autism, literature, disaster, redemption, macrocosms, microbes, exceptions and contradictions.
