Jeff Lowe ‘Building Space’ A Selection of Recent Sculpture and Drawings
This exhibition brings together recent works by the International Sculptor Jeff Lowe for the first time since his major 2008 exhibition at the Robert Steele Gallery in New York. He came to prominence with his first one man show in 1974 at the prestigious Leicester Galleries in London’s Cork St. Lowe was only twenty-one and shortly after represented Britain at the Paris Biennale.

Exhibitions at the Hayward Gallery and Serpentine were followed by many one-man shows and numerous international exhibitions in Canada, Portugal, Australia and Holland.

Lowe was taught at St Martins by amongst others Sir Anthony Caro, Sir Philip King and William Tucker. Remaining true to his roots; always a ‘maker’ he has produced a vast body of work in many different materials. His new sculptures draw on his experience of the last 35 years as a sculptor. These sculptures have been ‘made’ they are not designed or three dimensional conceptualisations, emerging from a discipline of ‘looking’ they are organic in their production and result from a close relationship between the artist and object. They develop as much from discovery, accident and recognition as from an initial starting point.

This new work radiates the excitement of new discovery. It bucks the trends which have been so dominant over the last decade.
