This exhibition is supported by The Trafalgar Partnership LLP and the title for it has been inspired by the very essence of Kathleen D’Oré’s work – a celebratory expression of colour and light. In March The Coningsby gallery opens up the Spring Season 2010 with the first private show by Kathleen D’Oré for seven years.

D’Ore has created a unique artistic medium through three decades of experimentation with painting in resin resulting in her Lumina pieces. These are created by painting multiple layers of worked resin creating a three dimensional construct of abstract colours.

Completely opaque at first glance the Lumina comes to life when light is driven through the work creating a unique relationship between the observer and the work.

The Lumina have a truly universal appeal and observers find it easy to relate to Kathleen D’Oré’s work. The vivid patterns of flowing movement entice and invite viewers to respond to the dreamlike symmetry within each work and as we meditate on these works we might raise questions about what the titles refer to. Most of them actually have a reference in Classical British and Ancient Roman Literature or Greek mythology and discovering this makes us look for the layers of thrilling parallels. This process is unique as it activates the viewer one step further from being a plain spectator to a visitor in an intellectually inspiring landscape where visual art meets history, poetry and ancient philosophy.

Kathleen D’Oré moved from London several years ago to gain a closer connection with nature and now lives and works in splendid isolation in the Cotswolds.
