Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature a British artist, Clive Rowe, in Degrees of Abstraction. The exhibition is scheduled to run from March 25, 2011 through April 15, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, March 31, 2011).

About the Artist
Clive Rowe’s spectacular abstractions are magnetic works that demand your attention. A life-long photographer, Rowe’s colorful images display an artist affectionately experimenting with exciting new media by taking original photographs and manipulating them on a computer. The results are commanding and otherworldly. Soft and subtle or hard and dynamic, Rowe’s abstract compositions are like no other artistic creation. There is a geometric sensibility underneath the Technicolor sheen and electronic polish. Many images are framed by powerful sweeping “brushstrokes” that give way to a sense of endless depth, while other forms are presented in an empirical void.

Each work presents a new experience, as if Rowe is constantly reinventing himself. The forms seem to take shape from pure energy; the variety of color and texture is truly astounding. “The energy comes from a desire to challenge the conventional and obvious,” he explains, “to overturn the banal and to enliven the ordinary.” Although his work remains entirely abstract, Rowe is communicating with us on an individual level. The message is yours to discover.

Exhibition Dates: March 25, 2011 – April 15, 2011
